The Moment Happiness Begins

In my previous journal, I wrote about Christmas—even though it’s not even December yet. And while I was writing it, I suddenly thought,

Why am I already thinking about December in October? I was so busy looking ahead that I was missing what was right in front of me.

Autumn.

I was living in the present, but somehow missing the present at the same time.

And I thought, Oh… I can’t keep doing this.

Recently, I had been feeling a little down, and I kept blaming the season. I always thought autumn just made me feel a little sentimental.

But maybe it wasn’t autumn. I had been living too much in the future. So I decided to bring myself back to the present.

The trees along the street were changing colour.

The cold air carried that fresh, crisp feeling of the season.

The sky was spotless, and the sunlight still seemed to be holding onto the last bit of summer.

And just like that, something changed. I started noticing where I was. I felt present again. And that was the moment happiness started to return.

Happiness can really be that simple. Noticing what you have right now. Big or small. Feeling this moment fully, with all your senses. Simply being thankful that you’re here. Giving yourself some credit for everything you’ve made it through.

For surviving.
For trying.
For everything you’ve accomplished, even the things no one else sees.

We don’t always need to search so far ahead for happiness. It begins by gently telling ourselves,

You’ve done well.

Here’s my question for you:

What did today gift you?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave a comment below. 🌿
